Tarkov Wipe

Winter Wipe and Patch 0.14

Escape from Tarkov brings us the most anticipated patch of the year today! With version 0.14, which is currently being deployed, the game is going to wipe. All progress is reset, and everyone has to start the game from scratch. It goes without saying that the early-wipe period is probably the most enjoyable time to play Tarkov, as you don’t get overrun by high-level chads with god-tier armor and zero recoil weapons.

So, what does the new patch bring us, apart from all the early-wipe shenanigans? Firstly, there is a new map called “Ground Zero,” which is a miniature version of Streets of Tarkov and is limited to players below level 20. The level limit does not apply to your Scav, don’t worry. The map is aimed at Tarkov beginners and comes with some visual aids related to extracts and game mechanics. Furthermore, the map will feature some early quests.

Speaking of maps, Shoreline underwent a significant overhaul. We have new points of interest, new quests, a full rework of the “empty areas,” and border mines instead of the huge beton wall.

Let’s move on to Streets: we get a new boss and the promised BTR. The boss, Kollontay, spawns either at the Klimov Shopping Mall or in the MVD academy. Those areas were more or less empty, so the boss is definitely a welcoming change. The BTR is an armored vehicle that can be used as a taxi (several predefined stops) or as a “Covering Fire” service. Furthermore, you can use the vehicle to send looted (FIR) items back to your stash. Speaking of services: Lightkeeper’s tasks will unlock some services, such as requesting Rogue or Zryachiy support!

As announced, the new wipe will bring vaulting and armor plates. Vaulting allows climbing on or over certain obstacles; the default hotkey is the spacebar. The jump is now triggered by releasing the spacebar, so you have both functionalities on the same hotkey. Let’s wait and see how well it works. Regarding armor plates, the changes are quite substantial and not very intuitive for players without milsim background. I would highly suggest checking out the official patch notes for all the details regarding the new armor functionalities. Last but not least, the armor update comes with updated hit boxes and hit registration to allow more realistic firefights and ballistics. Combined with the overhauled recoil, we might end up with a whole new level of Tarkov experience. Let’s hope for the best!
